There are a number of reasons that we should all consider taking up some form of exercise.
NHS guidelines for adults between 16-64 are to undertake 150 minutes of exercise per week at a moderate intensity to stay healthy. Moderate intensity exercise should raise your heart rate but still allow you to hold a conversation. The 150 minutes can be divided up; such as five days of 30 minutes' activity.
Regular exercise will help you to improve your body composition (i.e. to shed fat and tone up). This will not only make you feel good about yourself but will reduce your risk of Type II diabetes and other weight related issues such as joint problems.
Importantly, regular exercise will improve your cardiovascular health resulting in lower blood pressure and reduced risk of heart disease.
In addition, exercise has benefits for your musculo-skeletal system by increasing bone strength, improving posture and by giving you better mobility and flexibility.
Perhaps some of the greatest benefits are those such as sleeping better, reduced stress levels and the improved sense of wellbeing that these offer.
